"The Leap" is the tenth and final episode of Foundation's first season on Apple TV+. It aired on November 19, 2021. The episode was written by David S. Goyer based on the novels by Isaac Asimov. David S. Goyer directed the episode.

Synopsis[]

Season Finale. An unexpected ally helps Salvor Hardin broker an alliance. A confrontation between the Brothers leads to unthinkable consequences.

Plot[]

On Terminus, a digital avatar of Hari Seldon emerges from the Vault and reveals the real reason behind centuries of acrimony between Anacreon and Thespis: a plot to keep the Outer Reach kingdoms in check enacted by Cleon2. Hari urges the three groups, Anacreons, Thespins, and Termini, to band together to face the Galactic Empire.

On Trantor, Brother Day is hit with the realization of events that have played out on the planet in his absence. He confronts Brother Dawn and reveals the true lengths of his corruption; Dawn is not a Cleon like the rest of them.

Hari reveals the true purpose of the Foundation was never about curating knowledge, but people, leading to the moment when an alliance about be formed by the Outer Reach with the potential to resist the Empire. Leaving the assembled groups with advice, Hari returns to the Vault but not before telling Salvor Hardin that her visions and feelings did not manifest from him.

Hari's revelations turn the true nature of the Foundation on its head, but the seeds of an alliance between the three planets grows. A plan is enacted to fool the Empire into thinking life on Terminus has been eradicated, allowing the alliance freedom to expand. Old enmities are put aside, and Salvor learns some truths about herself that tell her her destiny lies beyond Terminus.

On Trantor, Eto Demerzel kills Dawn without permission from Day. Day learns that the corruption of the Genetic Dynasty goes further than they have ever suspected - Cleon1 was corrupted, which may mean that both Day and Dusk are corrupted copies, and no new copies can be made of the original.

Gaal Dornick's leap of faith pays off in an unexpected manner.
