The Seer Church is the traditional religion of Synnax. The church is extremely influential on its homeworld, though it is not widespread across the Galaxy, with only one Seer Priest in the Galactic capital world of Trantor.

Beliefs and practices[]

Synnaxians commune with their god through prayer stones, which are permanently inserted into the cheeks of their followers.[1]

Mathematics and science are not trusted, and both are considered heretical. Possession of mathematical or scientific material is punishable by death on Synnax.[1][2]

History[]

During an event known as the Cleanse, scientists became regarded as heretics by the Seer Church, and were drowned on Synnax. The universities were burned, and any traces which remained were completely forbidden to enter.[1][2]

Gaal Dornick became an acolyte of the Seer Church against her true desires. After seeing a man executed for taking material from the abandoned universities, she began to study contraband mathematical and scientific knowledge in secret. She became known as a mathematical genius across the Galaxy, and won Hari Seldon's math contest to become his assistant on Trantor. However, Gaal had to choose exile from her homeworld, and removed her seer stones. The Church refused to listen when Gaal warned of rising sea levels which would affect Synnax.[1][2]
