The Second Foundation was a sister organisation to the Foundation on Terminus. Established on Ignis by Hari Seldon and Gaal Dornick, the Second Foundation was created to secretly guide the First Foundation through the crises.
History[]
According to the Plan, the Second Foundation meant to be a sister organisation to the First Foundation on Terminus. The Second Foundation would have been a "thumb on the scale", quietly correcting the course of actions taken by both the Galactic Empire and the First Foundation, as if left unchecked, the Foundation would become Empire all over again, necessitating the Second Foundation to work as a balance for them.
Hari Seldon planned to establish the Second Foundation on his homeworld of Helicon together with Raych Foss at some point around 12,102 Era Imperial. Due to the Plan going off course, Raych was unable to assist Hari, so he intended Gaal Dornick to help him establish it.[1] However Gaal refused to be part of the Plan and travelled to her homeworld of Synnax instead.
The Second Foundation was eventually formed in 12,240 Era Imperial by Hari and Gaal on the world of Ignis with help from the Mentalics community.[2] In 12,393 Era Imperial The Mule was known to fear the Second Foundation would mess up his plans and wished to destroy it.[3]
