Mentalics, also known as The Sighted, refers to those with the ability to read and shape the minds and perform other psychic feats.

Abilities And Powers

Mentalic abilities are extremely powerful as these people are able to read the minds of others around them and they are also able to manipulate people's mind when they are targeting them. For example, mentalics can hone in on a memory and alter the individuals perception of reality, making them believe that they are seeing the person that lies deep within their mind like what was shown with Salvor and also with Hari Seldon when he saw Raych Foss.

Metallics are verbally terse to one another, oftentimes completely silent when they congregate together. Instead, they are able to utilize an ability called "unvoicing", this means that they are able to communicate with one another inside of their own minds. This method allows them to communicate in a safer way. This means that the people around them that metallic abilities will not know what the mentalics are discussing.

The more powerful mentalics like Tellem Bond are able to enter an individual's mind and view it as a physical space such as when she entered Gaal's mind and mental transported them to Gaal's memories of Synnax and it was almost as if the space was formed around her. Additionally, they can also think outwards, for example, when Gaal had her vision in the future with the mule and when she was harmed by him when he had his hands around her in the present time period when she awoke the marks were actually on her this was because she was thinking outwards. It is also the same as when she left to mind when telemented it and she was covered in water.

As well as unvoicing, they also have the ability to replay memories to the people that they want to project them to. For example, Josiah was seen doing that to Salvor when it was just the both of them that were on the beach and he also showed her how Tellem came to rescue him along with that very same ability. Events also depicted many of the other metallics on Ignis doing it to Salvor as well when she was walking through the area, so the ability to display parts of history is something that is extremely impressive and powerful as it paints an extremely clear picture. One other power that they emit is that they can essentially manipulate the space around them and generate some kind of force that can be used against somebody. Another ability is that they can feel the pain of anything that is around them, empathy is one of the biggest traits of the metallics and when suffering is present it is something that they understand and can truly feel this.

Still yet another ability that they have which is known so far is that they're able to take over the minds of the subject that they're targeting and they can render them into a state of unconsciousness or they can prevent them rom even moving, allowing them to have total control over the individual. Tellem expressed this power when she was with Gaal inside of the beggar's lament and also with Salvor when she was frozen on the spot and rendered unconscious.

The final ability shown so far is that of psychic possession, it was first discovered by Tellem Bond when she was dying of old age while being worshiped by her home planet as the incarnation of their religion's goddess. This lead her to take the mind and body of a young girl adjacent to her and had the further effect of permanently augmenting her powers. Tellem used the ability many times over the years to sustain her life at the cost of killing others and bolstering her abilities exponentially. As her powers grew she began to project her abilities on an interstellar level, eventually finding a mentalic of equal or greater power in Gaal Dornick whose powers she soon plotted add to her own by usurping her body and mind, luring her Salvor and Seldon to Ignis to do so.
