The middle band was a region of the galaxy at the edge of the Periphery. A number of planets were located in the middle band, the most important of which was Kalgan. The middle band was previously controlled by the Galactic Empire, but by 12,392 Era Imperial, the region was an independent buffer between the Empire and the growing Foundation. Kalgan's influence on the rest of the middle band was such that the worlds would follow Kalgan if it allied with either faction.[1]
