Mavon is a recurring character in Season Three of the Apple TV+ streaming series Foundation. He is a Claviger in service to the Galactic Empire. Mavon is portrayed by Ibraheem Toure, first appearing in the episode "Shadows in the Math".
Biography[]
Mavon was First Claviger[3] in service to the Galactic Empire in 12,392 Era Imperial.[2] He had a partner, Prunella,[1] and a young daughter, Cygnet, who was ill and had only a year left to live.[2] They lived on the ground of the Imperial Palace, as all Clavigers were required to have families that effectively served as hostages to ensure loyalty.[3] At the Claviger Barracks, Mavon and other Clavigers would play cards with Cleon24;[2] however, Mavon and the others took him for a sucker and would ensure that they would signal when they had a good hand so that the others would fold.[1] Mavon and Cleon were friendly, and he had confided in the emperor about his daughter's condition. For his part, Cleon was sorry for the situation and wished there was something he could do about it.[2]
Cleon24 approached Mavon, needing his help to leave the Imperial Palace with Song but without his brothers and Demerzel knowing. Mavon was reluctant, since Clavigers were required to have families that were essentially held hostage in homes on the grounds of the palace to ensure their loyalty. Cleon told him that if he helped him, then Mavon and his family would also have to flee the palace. However, he would pay Mavon enough for him to set up on a planet of his choosing, and give Cygnet his Imperial nanites to cure her illness. Mavon eventually agreed, planning to dress Cleon and Song as Clavigers and use jet downs to reach the outer ward.[3]
Mavon returned to his home to find Cleon there, allowing Cygnet to play with his ferret, Capillus. Prunella was wary of his presence in their home, and Cleon asked her to take Cygnet upstairs while he talked to Mavon. Alone, Cleon told him they had to leave now. Mavon had heard about Song, and knew that Cleon intended to go after her. He warned him that even Clavigers did not go to Mycogen unless it was in full force. Shortly after, Mavon and the disguised Cleon left the Claviger Barracks on jet downs, heading for Stanel's old keep. As they reached the outer ward, Mavon gave Cleon instructions on the direction to go, intending to go back for his family. Cleon siphoned out the nanites for Cygnet and gave them to Mavon, who turned away to put them on his jet down. Turning back to Cleon, he found a weapon drawn on him. Cleon shot him, and explained that he knew Mavon was going to betray him, and was loyal, just not to him. Mavon had subtly flashed his lights at the checkpoint, similar to the tell he used playing cards which Cleon was all too aware of. Cleon killed Mavon, and injected him with the nanites, intended to use Mavon's body as a distraction to throw Demerzel off his trail.[1]
