The Maiden is an arid, yet habitable moon, and is the central location of Luminism.

General Information

The Maiden is one of the three moons of Dol, which in turn lies in the Surah system. It is the only habitable moon, with the others being the Mother and the Crone. It is still a rather dry, arid, and inhospitable world.[1]

The world is dominated by salt mines which produce leviathan crystals, the signature trinket of Luminism. It is the seat of the Proxima, the head of the Luminist religion.[1]

Locations on the Maiden include the Salt Palace[1] and the Spiral.[2]

History

Following the death of Proxima Opal, Emperor Cleon XIII personally travels to the Maiden for her funeral, in order to avert the possible accession of Zephyr Halima as Proxima, who would seek to return to the Primary Octavo, thus threatening the stability of the Empire. This occasion marks the first time that any Emperor left Trantor since the days of Cleon I.[1]
