The Imperial Palace was the seat of power for the Galactic Empire, serving as both the center of governmental authority and the personal residence of the Genetic Dynasty. Located on Trantor, the Imperial Palace was surrounded by the only natural open spaces on the planet.

Located on the planet Trantor, the Imperial Palace was the residence of the rulers of the Galactic Empire, including the Genetic Dynasty. It also served as the seat of government.[1] Surrounded by vast grounds and gardens, it was one of the few remaining locations on Trantor to include native greenery[2] and to be able to naturally see night sky from the surface.[1] The Imperial Palace and its grounds, including the Imperial Gardens and the Imperial Hunting Grounds, covered an area of two hundred square kilometers.[2]
The Imperial Palace was located in the heart of the grounds,[1] and a large landing field for Imperial Shuttles was located nearby.[3] Inside the Imperial Palace, the Genetic Dynasty held court in the Throne Room, and each member of the royal household had their own personal quarters and shared living spaces. The Imperial Palace was the location of the vast Mural of Souls, a combination of artistic work and historical record.[1] Other location included the Hall of Cleons, which honored the memories of previous members of the Genetic Dynasty, and the Principium Tower where the preserved body of Cleon I was kept,[4] serving as the source of the genetic material that the rest of the Cleon Emperors were drawn from.[3]

In 12,067 Era Imperial, Emperor Cleon XII summoned delegations from Anacreon and Thespis to the Imperial Palace to answer for the conflict that erupted into violence in the Anthor Belt. When the Star Bridge was bombed, the Emperors were woken and watched the fall of the orbital tether from the Palace.[1] The Palace was protected by an energy field that rendered it safe from the effects of the terrorist attack.[5]
