A castling device was a method of teleportation that allowed two people to switch places as long as they were of a similar size and mass. A node within a bracelet worn by both people allowed the teleportation of anything within the subject's bioelectrical field. This meant that the teleporter's clothes and equipment remained where they were, but the individual would teleport, ending up in the other person's clothes.[1]

Hober Mallow used a castling device to try and steal the Eye of Korell from Commdor Argo on the planet Korell. When he was captured and sentenced to execution by Titan's prick, Hober again used the castling device to escape.[1] A short while later, when Hober was captured by General Bel Riose of the Galactic Empire, the castling device was confiscated from him.[2]

After Cleon XVII ordered General Bel Riose to destroy the rest of the planets in the Foundation following the destruction of Terminus, the soldier refused the command. This disobedience led to a physical fight between Cleon and Riose aboard the Shining Destiny. During the confrontation, Riose slipped one of the nodes into Cleon's clothing as he was being forced into an airlock. Once the Emperor had ejected Riose into space, the general triggered the castling device, switching places with Cleon. Riose saved his own life and doomed the Emperor in the process. The device was subsequently destroyed when the Shining Destiny exploded.[3]
