Brother Darkness is a minor character in the Apple TV+ series Foundation. Brother Darkness is the last stage of an Emperor's life in the Genetic Dynasty. Brother Darkness is portrayed by Terrence Mann, first appearing in the episode "The Mathematician's Ghost".

Brother Darkness is the final stage of a Cleon Emperor's life, taken as they approach their ascension. During a formal ceremony, Brother Dusk is elevated to the position of Brother Darkness, as each Cleon takes one step forward in the Genetic Dynasty; the new Brother Dawn is born, the existing Dawn becomes Brother Day, and Day moves to Brother Dusk. Darkness then undergoes ascension, being vaporised into ash.[1] The last moments of each Brother Darkness were recorded.[2]
Cleon11[]
Cleon11 attained the position of Brother Darkness thirty-five years after the bombing of the Star Bridge, as he neared the end of his life and prepared for his ascension. As he did, he became Brother Darkness and his position was taken by the previous Brother Day, Cleon12. At the ceremony, the new Brother Dawn cried, causing Darkness to believe that something was wrong with the child. However, Demerzel guided him to ascension before he could worry about it further.[1]
Cleon23[]
Cleon23 attained the position of Brother Darkness, but rather than accepting his impending doom, Darkness staged a coup, destroying all of the Cleon exponents and Demerzel and killing Brother Day to rise as the sole power of the Galactic Empire. Cleon believed that his rise to power as Brother Darkness was the ending of the Genetic Dynasty followed by Darkness predicted by Hari Seldon.[3]
