A bishop's claw was a megafauna creature endemic to the Outer Reach.[2] They were native to the planet Terminus.[1] A bishop's claw had six legs, and its name was derived from the creature's long and scimitar-like forepaws.[3]

While training to survive on Terminus while travelling on the slow ship Deliverance, the members of the Foundation included a bishop's claw attack as part of their simulation.[2]Thirty-five years later, in 12,102 Era Imperial, a bishop's claw had taken up residence in the scuttled remains of the Deliverance on Terminus. Living close to Terminus City, the bishop's claw began to test the perimeter fence for weaknesses. Warden Salvor Hardin named the creature "Maybel" and kept an eye on her tracks.[4]

The Galactic Empire used the image of a bishop's claw on the reverse side of one of its coins; the other side was a stylized image of the Emperor. The side of the coin with the bishop's claw on it was referred to as "cats" while the other side was "crowns".[5]

By 12,240 Era Imperial, bishop's claws had been domesticated by members of the Church of the Galactic Spirit. Brother Constant kept one as a pet and steed, and she named her Beki.[6]
